The final major of the year is set to be classic. Unlike the US Open the golf course has been greeted with very positive
reactions from the players. Whereas Chambers Bay was lambasted by the competitors for the ridiculously poor condition of the greens, many players have praised the venue to the highest degree. Players have been taking to their social media accounts and openly praising the course. Two time major winner Bubba Watson is quoted as saying,
“The golf course is in beautiful shape. The rough is thick and healthy, and fairways are in perfect shape and the greens. I haven’t seen greens run this good in a long time”
He’s not the only one praising the course. The likes of Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia and Brooks Koepka have all praised the golf courses condition and the scenery. The player taking this year by storm, Jordan Speith, also posted this picture of him on a practice round with Gary Woodland and Justin Thomas showing some amazing views.
There are almost 1000 bunkers around the course, but who will go on to avoid trouble and win the final major of the 2015 season. Well all in the media and one name is on everyone’s lips, Rory Mcilroy. After injuring his ankle playing football, he’s been out of action for almost 8 weeks and missed the Open as well as the US Open. After much speculation and anticipation the world No.1 has confirmed he will defend his championship this week. This has only heightened the profile of this tournament as all eyes will head to Wisconsin. Can Mcilroy make a Hollywood style comeback and win? Well here is who ‘the biggest sports news’ are backing in our top 3 tips.
Dustin Johnson: It feels like the whole world is desperate for Johnson to win. Heartbreak was all that greeted him at Chambers Bay by just missing out to Spieth earlier in the year. He was also penalized at this venue in 2010 where painfully he played a ball out of an area which he didn’t know was a bunker, and therefore narrowly lost out to Martin Kaymer. Maybe this time the extremely talented American will lead the field and finally win his first major
Henrik Stenson: The long hitting swede has been in the mix for a long time but like everyone of our picks, has never won a major. He has impressed many a time on all stages and certainly has the experience to win. A very popular man with the fans and his fellow players, few would begrudge of a win this week.
Brooks Koepka: To many, this is not a well know name but this young pro has been flying up that rankings and has looked very good this season. He is tipped as a future major winner and there is no better time to do it than this week at Whistling Straits.
